Hernando County Fire Rescue would like to apply to the State EMS Matching Grant Program for the purchase of the four (4) LUCAS 2.2 Chest Compression Systems.
Hernando County Fire Rescue is always looking for ways to maximize their resources while improving response in the field. Effective chest compressions deliver vital oxygen to the brain and can prime the heart for a successful shock. Maintaining sufficient coronary perfusion pressure during cardiac arrest improves the likelihood of return of spontaneous circulation. Performing manual CPR according to current AHA (American Heart Association) guidelines, is difficult and tiring. LUCAS provides continuous, effective compressions, helping to maintain good circulation. LUCAS facilitates consistent blood flow from the moment it is turned on, helping to improve a patient's chance for a successful outcome. When the cardiac arrest victim is ready for transport, LUCAS also moves with the patient from the emergency scene to the ambulance.
In Fiscal Year 2017, HCFR was awarded $60,000 from the State and local funds of $20,000 were utilized to purchase five (5) LUCAS 2.2 systems. All 240 combat personnel have been trained to use these devices in the field. Since that time, we have seen an increase of 19% increase in return circulation.
If awarded the full application amount, the grant amount would be $70,128 and matching local funds of $23,376.
