Based upon both Federal and State rules, the MPO is required every five years to perform a major update to its Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP). The MPO’s 2040 LRTP was adopted in December 2014. The 2045 LRTP update must be completed by December 2019.
Conducting an LRTP update is a three-year process and is one of the most technically complex tasks conducted by an MPO. The plan must conform to a series of new rules mandated at the Federal level referred to as FAST Act (Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act). Additionally, F.S. 339.175 requires that LRTP’s must be coordinated and consistent with local government Comprehensive Plans. Technical support is also provided by FDOT District Seven through its Regional Transportation Analysis (RTA).
Scope A was approved by the MPO in September of 2016 to allow the consultant to begin data collection and initial efforts for the 2045 LRTP update. A second scope of work was drafted by the MPO general planning consultant, Kimley-Horn Incorporated, to complete this effort.
